This is Part 4 in my series about Swimming the Channel in a 6 person relay with some sample training sessions.

These are based on a minimum of 3 swims per week split up as one endurance, one speed and one technique.

Your training can be split into winter (all pool swims), spring (2 pool, 1 short aclimatising open water), summer (1 open water, 2 pool).

Some key principles are to make sure your swimming includes technique work to keep your form, variety to keep your body stimulated and increase by only 10% per week so you don’t get ill or injured.
